A favorite of almost every backyard feeder bird. They have easy to crack, thin shells and can be offered in a wide variety of feeder types, like platform, tube, and hopper feeders. These seeds also have a high fat content that is perfect for giving birds energy all year long, especially in winter.
100% SQUIRREL PROOF* – The feeder’s weight-activated spinning perch gently tosses squirrels off when they try to access the ports, but allows even large birds to feed
FEED MULTIPLE BIRDS – Four feeding ports allow multiple birds, including cardinals, chickadees, finches, grosbeaks, jays, juncos, nuthatches, and more, to dine at the same time
SUPERIOR DURABILITY – This feeder is made with heavy-duty metal components that have been powder coated, so the feeder can be reused for many birding seasons
SAVES SEED – The feeder’s squirrel-proof design ensures less seed waste, which means birds can enjoy more seed, while you save money and deal with fewer messes on the ground
EASY TO CLEAN & FILL – The Yankee Flipper features a lift-off lid and wide-mouth seed reservoir to allow for easy filling and cleaning. The reservoir holds up to 5 lb of black-oil sunflower seed or mixed seed
Customers say
Customers find this bird feeder effective at deterring squirrels and appreciate its build quality, noting it lasts up to three years and is entertaining to watch. Moreover, the functionality and feed quality receive positive feedback, with customers describing it as the pinnacle of squirrel-proof feeders. However, the battery life and spinning mechanism show mixed results – while some report it holds charge for a long time, others say the batteries quit holding charge, and while it spins nonstop for some, others report the bottom disengaging and falling off. Additionally, opinions on value for money are divided between those who find it worth the cost and those who consider it expensive.

Finally, one that works!follow up after 5 momths
This anti-squirrel feeder is the bomb! It’s a quality piece, easy to assemble, easy to clean, and easy to refill. And…it actually works in being squirrel-proof! It works so well that after about a week, the squirrels no longer even try. They just gather the seeds that lay on the ground. It has been such a joy watching the birds come and feed in the mornings and late afternoons. It’s become quite the attraction. We now have the neighborhood diner for squirrels.I felt I was taking a small risk as this feeder is not inexpensive. But it works so well and the value is so great, this morning I ordered another one!Dec 2023. We’ve been using it for nearly six months now and I am more convinced now than ever before. This is an amazing feeder and is worth every penny we spent. The squirrels actually learn to stay away despite their best efforts to get to the seeds. It’s easy to full and maintain and seems, except for one minor concern, to be incredibly durable. The battery holds a charge, but the longer we leave it out, the less frequently it needs to be charged because the squirrels learn to stay away. When it does need to be cleaned and charged, it’s an easy and quick process. Our feeder area has become an incredible community center for the birds in our area. We spend early mornings and lazy afternoons amazed by the number of birds that show up. Trying to identify them all can be a challenge! One benefit is that, while the perches are better suited for small birds, the seeds that fall to the ground attract larger birds as well.I’ll attach a picture of the lid to the feeder. It’s made of rugged metal and shows the evidence of some squirrels that managed to get on top and tried to gnaw their way into the seed chamber. This is a well-thought-out design! Our only minor concern is the container for the seed. It is showing a faint crack near the top. I am going to investigate whether replacements are available. It will be a small price to pay for all the enjoyment we get form this feeder.

A solid product – updated again! 5 years later
Video: the Flipper in action! No squirrels got hurt in the process of making the video. :)Initial review from 2010: Works well so far – it’s been outside since I got it in July and the birds love it. The squirrels were at first wary and then they got a little daring – and got flung gently away. I don’t get a huge variety of birds (it’s winter now so that has something to do with it) and my local birdfeed store guy told me that cardinals can’t clutch the ring perch. It seems to be true – the cardinals will eat from the other (bar type perch instead of ring perch) feeder but not this one.It does seem tough and well made, extremely easy to fill, and it looks absolutely brand-new although it has been out there in the elements feeding a ton of birds for about six months now. I am glad I bought this, although it is pricey! and I would buy it again. It would make a great present for anyone you know who has a regular feeder and is sick of battling the squirrels.By the way, I spill some seed on the ground for the squirrels – I am not trying to starve them but I don’t want them scaring away the birds.UPDATE to review (September 2012): Okay, 3 years later and this thing is going strong. The squirrels have been able to chew a little bit into the paint on the metal top (the damage is not disfiguring, or noticeable from a normal distance) – otherwise this has held up really well, and it’s been out there 24 hours a day for over three years now in all weather. I have only had to recharge it once or twice a year (I bring it in overnight and charge with the AC adaptor) – you can tell when it needs charging when you catch the squirrels lying in the perch ring and gorging themselves 🙂 I have had cardinals, house finches, very pretty goldfinches, and a few red-bellied woodpeckers.Summary – this was a really satisfying purchase and I recommend it. If I need another feeder I will only buy Droll Yankee = every other feeder I have ever used has fed the squirrels and not the birds.UPDATE to review (July 2015): 5 years of gentle squirrel deterring and it’s still working well! It’s a bit scarred and scraped up by determined and toothy squirrels, but it works flawlessly. It still needs to be charged only maybe twice or three times a year (as above, I can tell it needs a charge when you see a squirrel lolling in the ring at the bottom gorging LOL – if you pay more attention than I do, you may notice that it needs a charge before the situation gets to that). I have seen the new version of the Flipper, and they have added a thingy at the bottom of the unit so that a clear plastic tray can be added very easily to catch the sunflower seed hulls. I would consider buying another just so I can use one of those with it. Those hulls make a terrible mess.So again – what a terrific purchase. Really, really happy with it. I am bumping my rating from four to five stars bcs seriously? What else works this well for this long without issues? Five stars it is!

The best feeder ever!
My third Droll Yankees flipper. Always fun to watch the squirrels get flipped off although they have learned they can ride the feeder and have it fling seeds while they do. These feeders last a long time (5-6 years) and the birds love it. Highly recommended.

Works GREAT!!
Seems to be able to deter squirrels from feasting on bird food. Have only charged it once in the last month so I will need to see if that continues

Keeps the pests away – lasted me 15 years before replacing it
Does what it says it will do – and is effective. Easy to setup and made of quality durable materials. This is my second one – the first one lasted 15 years and I got rid of it only because the battery was not holding a charge for as long as it should … could have replaced the battery for around 100, but figured, heck, I’ll buy a new one so it’s sparkly and new looking – after 15 years figured we it was due. Battery holds the charge for months and at times for all season… easy to remove battery and recharge without removing the seed or making a mess. More expensive than other feeders, but then again, this will be the only one you buy… no trial and error here – this just works. Squirrels go flying and can’t get a grip. Top is thick material and they can’t even gnaw their way through if they tried (and they do…) Recommend.

BEST Bird Feeder – Squirrel Free
This bird feeder does exactly what it was intended to do – keep squirrels off your feeder, saving $ in bird seed. I have purchased 3 of these quality feeders. In the past, I tried every kind of bird feeder you could imagine only to have squirrels constantly eating it. Another great thing about this bird feeder that I REALLY like is that it does not get clogged when it rains. This feeder comes fully charged and lasts a long time. Would highly recommend đź’Ż%!

This bird feeder is a great. Quality made!My only dislike is that it’s on the larger side meaning length and having to find a much larger pole for mounting. Too close to the ground for my liking with my existing pole. Holdes a lot of seeds.

Pretty pricey item for no batteries, and no motor – tho’ those old motorized ones were kinda onerous after three or four years anyway. This is a far simpler and more elegant solution to the black or grey squirrel problem. The system works really well for supporting juncos, chickadees, sparrows, goldfinches, purple finches and buntings. Blue jays and cardinals have a harder time staying on. But I notice that blue jays get on the perch and dig out seed, spraying it on the ground and then drop to the ground to feast.

I have tried many feeders that claim to be squirrel-proof. This is the only one that has ever proven that claim. It is well made, durable, and actually squirrel-proof!

The birds love this feeder and it does hold the weight of a cardinal. It looked somewhat shaky but held it so it did work. I absolutely LOVE the fact that the feeder holds so much seed so that refilling doesn’t have to happen so frequently. I think the design is really well thought out…nice job Droll Yankees!

We owned a Yankee Flipper for a couple of years and the archaic NiCad battery no longer held a charge. Finding an overpriced replacement battery pack turned out to be impossible, so we purchased a Yankee Whipper instead. 3 months later, one of the 4 perch springs broke, and it wasn’t due to squirrels (they’ve vanished this summer). A call to the manufacturer (more likely “importer of Chinese products”) was a waste of time. They don’t have the individual springs and would have to send me a perch assembly, if they had any. No offer to take my info and send me one when they come in (likely from you-know-where).These are expensive products with no customer service included. We definitely won’t be fooled again into buying another one of their products.
