Q1: How to tune the thumb piano?
A1: Each kalimba’s tone has been tuned accurately before delivered so it is not necessary to tune in the beginning. If the tone is inaccurate in the later use, you can use the tuning hammer and auxiliary APP to tune it.
Q2: Can I learn thumb piano without any music foundation?
A2: YES. Kalimba is an introductory instrument that is suitable for beginners to learn and play, no special fingering or any musical foundation required. It can be played by pressing the corresponding keys which has been engraved with notes and number on each tine.
Q3: Why the highest keys have very little tone or resonance?
A3: In fact, the high keys of all musical instruments, not just the thumb piano, have very short sustained sound, including piano, harp, ukulele and guitar. This is a normal phenomenon because sound is produced by vibrating.
Q4: Is every thumb the same color?
A4: The color of the wood is determined by the natural properties of the tree. Lovely Instrument, Giftable
We love our Sound Harbor 17-Key Kalimba. The tone is exquisite, the size fits easily in child or adult hands, and the appearance is that of a serious instrument. In addition to the Kalimba itself, the package included both an instruction booklet and a booklet of songs with which to practice. There was also a cloth bag for storing and transporting the instrument, a pair of finger-tips for easier playing, a cleaning cloth, labels to identify the keys (if the stamped-in labels are hard to read) and even a tuning mallet. This instrument is easy to play and great for small gatherings or personal enjoyment. We’re delighted with this very giftable addition to our musical collection.

A solid little instrument
I don’t know much about kalindas but I do know a little something about wooden instruments, and for its size and price, this one is perfectly fine. It’s got a nice heft, all the seams are smooth and tight, and it resonates, well…decently. Especially on the higher tones, that is, the short keys, one has to pluck them pretty hard to get a good sound out of them, but it’s easy enough with just a little practice. And the tones that one does get are true and pleasant–all the keys arrived correctly tuned so the instrument was ready to play out of the box. Clearly this isn’t a “professional grade” musical instrument, but for a little noodling at home, it’s an excellent value.

Cute and fun
I found this item to be very entertaining and fun to play. It came tuned and I messed it up fooling around with it. You can tune it to perfection if you use any tuning app or guitar device. I would highly recommend this if you want to play an instrument that’s not loud or offensive. YouTube has plenty of kalimba tunes you can practice.

Beautiful instrument, blissful sound
This was a great purchase and has become my handheld tactile addiction. The sound is gorgeous, even if you don’t know how to play. It’s great for tuning other instruments or “thumbing” a cute melody over a busy work desk. A few minutes of play really brightens your mood and environment. I can’t express how pleasing the sound is – and loud, for such a small tool. Definitely don’t let your children get a hold of this unless you want your home filled with absolute melodic delight 24/7. I brought it on a family trip and my (adult) relatives quite literally fought over their turns to play it. I ended up repurchasing one for a family member.

Slightly smaller than I though but not a big deal.Easy to handle, however it gets 4 stars because of the lack of depth to the tones.Compared to my flat board kalimba it sounds tinny and sort of buzzy.Not a bad deal but if you want a rich sounding tone a flat board is the way to go.Buy one. Try it.
