For maximum protection against squirrels and maximum comfort for your favorite birds, try the Perky-Pet Squirrel-Be-Gone Max Bird Feeder. This feeder includes our patented Flexports, which offer 5-in-1 benefits for birds and you. The unique design is 4X more shake resistant than standard ports so there’s less seed waste – which means money saved and fewer messes on the ground! The design also allows birds to feed at an optimal position outside of the port, offering better visibility so they feel safer and stick around longer. Each feeding station also features a ladder-style perch to accommodate a wide variety of bird sizes. To offer defense against squirrels, this feeder boasts multiple great features. First, this feeder’s weight-activated perch system is calibrated to support the weight of birds but not squirrels. When squirrels try to gain access to the perches, the ports close off under their weight. In addition, the new and improved Sure-Lock cap prevents squirrels from lifting the lid, while the metal frame discourages chewing around the ports. To ensure a 100% squirrel proof feeder, placement is key! Squirrels are clever acrobats, so it’s important to find the right hanging location. Hang the feeder with at least 18 inches of clearance on all sides so squirrels can’t easily reach the ports.
Keep Squirrels Out – The weight-activated Seed Shield closes ports when squirrels try to feed & the Sure-Lock cap prevents them from removing the lid
More Birdwatching Time – The patented Flexports allow for a more optimal feeding position outside the port, so birds feel safer and stay longer
Accommodate Many Birds – The four ladder-style perch pads are designed to fit both small and large birds, so none of your favorite species are left out
4x Less Seed Loss – Flexports are designed to be more resistant to weather and squirrel shaking, meaning money saved and fewer messes on the ground
Easy to Fill & Clean – The extra-wide, 6-inch opening allows for mess-free filling, while the removable, twist-off lid makes cleaning a breeze
Large Capacity – Holds up to 4 lb of mixed seed, black-oil sunflower seed, sunflower chips, or safflower seed
Customers say
Customers find the bird feeder excellently designed and appreciate its large seed capacity, with one noting it can accommodate larger birds like Cardinals. The feeder functions well, and birds love using it. However, there are mixed experiences with squirrel protection – while some say it keeps them at bay, others report it’s not squirrel-proof. Moreover, the build quality receives mixed feedback, with some praising its construction while others note that the flexports wear out quickly. Additionally, customers report issues with seed drainage, as seeds fall out of the feeder.

Great Simple Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder
The squirrels don’t really know what to do with this and I have it next to a fence 🤣. They just hang out around the ground. But the birds love it. It has 4 spaces for tge brids to sit. Sometimes one bird will be greedy and not let the other birds eat thats when I send my dog out. My wife says our backyard is like a Disney Movie now with all the birds. Easy to fill up, seems pretty sturdy and haven’t had any problems. Feeds the birds for about a week give or take a few days. I fill it with wagers black oil sunflower seed and it hangs on a FEED Garden Hook Bird Feeder Pole.

Great, mostly squirrel proof bird feeder
I wanted a bird feeder to attract and watch colorful local birds, but we have a lot of squirrels in our neighborhood, and they are known to chew up everything (patio furniture, patio lights, pots, etc.), so I wanted something that would stand up to abuse. This is overall easy to fill, the lid is secure once you tighten the wire, and has lasted pretty well. I like that this is a large size and holds a lot of birdseed, so I don’t have to fill it up as often. The lid is metal as is the lower piece on which the birds sit, and I haven’t seen any damage from squirrels chewing. The mechanism that lowers and covers the openings works well overall, and the only issue I’ve seen is that the little rubber ‘valves’ that cover the holes wear out pretty quickly from being pecked and chewed, which allows seed to flow out more easily when you fill it or when the wind shakes the feeder. I think the squirrels have realized this, so they don’t seem to chew on the feeder, but they do shake it from above, which causes seed to fall on the ground and then they eat it. Overall it works pretty well and is affordable for what I need, and the birds really seem to like it.

Not Totally Squirrel Proof, Add a Baffle and You Win!
I had a birdfeeder that the resident squirrel in the tree would invade and chase birds away. I went 13 rounds with him trying to defeat him with my superior IQ. I hung it in a tree, he climbed on it; I pulled it away from the branch with two ropes to make it harder for him to reach it, he walked on the two ropes, two legs on each rope; I reduced it to one rope, he pulled the feeder to him. This went on for a week. I finally surrendered and bought this feeder.Well Rufus, the high IQ tree rodent, would climb on top of it and override the safety button and open the top. This squirrel should have his own TV show called “Stump the Human- You Will Never Stop Me”. I had one more tactic, I used the baffle from the earlier feeder that he had worked to get to the feeder. I placed the baffle over the hanging hook. See the picture.I watched Rufus study the new feeder complex with intensity, moving from one branch to another trying to find the best angle. Well, my victorious moment was when he hung by his tail curved around the hanging wire and was reaching down to try to reach under the baffle.I watched him stretch, and stretch moving every closer to get under the baffle, and finally his tail broke lose, and he fell out of site to the ground. I screamed “Take that you big, tailed rodent!” I swear I could hear him screaming “I will get you human, I know where you live!”. He jumped off the ground, held his little paw at me and I swear I saw a middle claw rise up. Buy the feeder and the baffle and you will never suffer the embarrassment of being outsmarted by a squirrel.

Bird “flexports” ports wears out far too fast!!
Perky Pet’s line of bird feeders heavily touts “Flexports” which are small plastic “flaps” attached to each of the feeding ports of the bird feeders. The Flexports are designed so that birds can push through to access the seeds but the Flexports then close up to prevent the seed from pouring out.The problem with the Flexports is that they wear out quickly from the beaks of the feeding birds rubbing through the plastic.Result- the bird seed now empties out of the feeder so fast that the feeder is unusable [unless you just want to feed your birds with the seed that has fallen on the ground below the feeder.]Solution- contact customer service at Perky Pets via email [no phone number] and request to buy replacement Flexports. Probably less than $10.00 or so.The email response from Perky Pets is ridiculous, at best….”Hello William,Thank you for reaching out to us. I’m sorry to hear your feeder needs new flexports! These are not something we have available as replacement parts. Your interest in them has been shared with our Product Managers. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, we’re happy to help.Sincerely,KathrynOnline Customer Experience SpecialistWoodstream Corporation”Now, since no replacement Flexports parts are available from Perky Pets nor seemingly anywhere else on the web [even though Perky Pets continues to advertise “Flexports”], I now have a worthless bird feeder.Moral: Beware Perky Pets bird feeders!

Great feeder with one flaw
This feeder works very well at deterring squirrels. I have it on a hook about 18 inches from the wall of the house (see photo), which they can, of course, climb. Some may have tried to get to the seed by jumping on a perch, but even if they could hold on, they cannot get to the seed. In any case, I have seen none try. Once in a while, one gets on top, but the body of the feeder is too long for them to dangle down to the seed ports. They either scramble back up or fall off.The birds may take a while to figure out how to get to the seed and may, as did mine at first, prefer other feeders in the yard. This feeder has, however, become a popular spot (see photo). The feeder seems to be very sturdy, and it is easy to fill. The flaw is the in the rubber flaps that cover the ports. These are nice because they keep seed from spilling out. Over time, however, they wear down. Now, as the birds feed, more seed spills out. I anticipate that these will wear down so much that seed will spill out when I refill the feeder.I wish those flaps were replaceable because the rest of the feeder will last much longer than they do.

it is perfect. No squirrels have been able to access the contents. It holds a large amount of seeds; I use it for sunflower seeds. It works as well as my squirrel buster plus feeder, and cost almost a third of it. Also an added plus, the seeds do not flow out all over the place but stay in the feeder for the birds. I’m extremely pleased on all counts and definitely recommend this model. Thank you.

Works great, easy to fill, took the birds a little while to get used to it but now they love it.

The squirrels chewed through the part that keep the seeds in. Now the seeds fall right out as soon as you fill it up. Cannot clean the bottom easily and the seeds get trapped in the bottom and rot. Poor design, not worth the money.

Out of the box, it looked rather fragile. But it has held up well so far, although it has not faced any serious winter storms yet. The birds seem to like it, both the small ones (chickadees, etc.) and the larger ones (jays, etc.). I have only seen one squirrel attempt at access; it gave up, seedless.

If you hang it in the open it works very well, squirrels have a tendency to chew the plastic whole protectors, but all in all a good product.
