the point of the thing is to make a nice ring…
firstly, this is a wee little bell. it looks smaller in life than in the listings, even if you read the dimensions and scrutinise the pictures. i would be fine with the petite size if i loved everything else about it, but…it’s meh.visually, it is pretty basic. mine had a loose handle straight out of the box, which is easily fixed by simply screwing it tighter. i hope it stays, as it will be annoying to have to re-tighten it at regular intervals. but they sound of it is a bit disappointing. i did not want a loud bell—if i had, i would have bought one of those bigger things that schools use for calling children in from recess. (memories of catholic school alone would preclude my EVER wanting such a thing…) i wanted a quieter bell, but one with a clear, sweet tone. this one rings VERY quietly. it may be the most discreet ring i’ve ever heard short of something fairy sized. if you are looking for a bell that won’t disturb any invalids or napping babies, here’s your bell. (it might fail to summon any assistance also, however. ) not only is it very subdued/quiet, it is rather dull in tone. ringing it more aggressively just makes a slightly louder dull tone. it’s reminiscent of those tiny jingle bells sold in multi-packs at crafts or notions shops. tinny…not clear and appealing.sometimes we get what we pay for, i suppose.
