The Night Sky is a rotating star finder (planisphere) that allows the user to recognize the constellations for any time of night, any day of the year. The sky appears to rotate (due to the rotation and orbital motion of the earth), so to be successful recognizing the constellations a beginner needs to know which stars are above the horizon at any time.
This is the pocket-sized version of The Night Sky suitable for the northern United States and parts of Europe. We have versions for the following latitude zones: 50°-60°, 40°-50°, 30°-40°, 20°-30°, and the Southern Hemisphere. We also have full-sized versions available for the same latitude zones.

Find the stars
This compact planisphere is excellent! Compact and easy to carry, and most importantly easy to read with red light. Very nice to have one suited for us in northern latitudes. Highly recommended. (NB: this only shows stars and constellations; planets move around too much and can be found by consulting periodicals.)

cute
It’s cute, but larger would be more appropriate for learning constellations.

This planisphere does the job and is dew proof!
Made of plastic with a brass connector, you never have to worry about it getting wet. Thought it might be too small, but it is just the right size for my binocular case. A genuine hillbilly goto system…I’m sure it will give me years of good service.

Too delicate
Good star chart, easy to use–but the rotating map is paper instead of plastic, too easily damaged. After camping with it twice, moisture caused it to wrinkle (now hard to spin) and disintegrate at the edges.

Stargazing was fun with girlscouts
This helped us find the stars at night for Girl Scouts!

like the kind you had at summer camp
This is a classic star finder dial, like the kind you had at summer camp. This is a smaller version, about the size of your hand. It comes in a protective plastic sleeve. You can easily put this in a pack so you can add some star gazing to your camping or hiking trips.
