An Easy Introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming
I’ve been exposed to NLP in the past and believe that there is a lot of truth in it. We tend to sabotage our own success by reliving past mistakes and the stories (usually that we can’t do something) that others give us.The format of this book is very easy, actually fun, to read. It reminded me of the One Minute Manager books in that vein.Several of the skills are easy to apply (I’ve started already). Others are more difficult. All will take some practice to get through non-productive habits.

Somewhat disappointed by Bandler
I was first introduced to the subject of NLP more than 30 years ago when I took a counselling course in graduate school. I remember being fascinated by the professor’s demonstrations. When I saw this more recent book by Richard Bandler, I was keen to buy it.The most interesting part of the book is in its beginning chapters, where Bandler shows how mental images (or movies) can be manipulated to change one’s fear, lack of confidence, etc. I tried to follow his instructions, but had difficulty visualising the images that he referred to. Perhaps one really requires the help of a tutor or trainer to master such techniques. The rest of the book covers areas such as positive thinking, setting goals, etc. While useful, the areas tend to be general, and not too different from what the reader comes across in most self-help books. The book is designed to provide instructions for self help, by taking the fictitious character Joe through a three-day seminar conducted by Bandler. For a self-help book, the author has picked a character that is too ideal, in that Joe follows Bandler’s instructions and learns readily. At the end of the story, he even wins the affection of the woman he fancies. It would have been more useful if the account could cover some realistic difficulties in learning NLP techniques. Only presenting an ideal case makes the book look more like promotional literature for Bandler’s seminar, rather than something designed to guide the reader in helping himself.I must admit that I am a bit disappointed in this book.

Great book
This book is a great way to experience what goes through the mind of a NLP participant of Richard Bandler’s seminar, and of course great methods to get over things in life and lead changes.I’m also in the middle of “using your brain for a change…” so I am kind of NLP fan.Let’s pray for unity and salvation.

Loved it
How to Take Charge of Your Life, followed a young man named Joe through a seminar on what the title of the book suggests. At the beginning, his life and his confidence are in shambles. We go with Joe, step by step, as he learns how to overcome the challenges that have put him in that situation. I liked the way we got to learn the concepts through a person we could identify with, instead of having facts flung at us. This was an enjoyable and beneficial read.

Life changer
By far the best self improvement book I have ever read. And Iv read a-lot! The format is easy to read and follow and I love how they have set it up from the perspective of a third person instead of talking at you like most. At the end is the summary of the most important aspects. Highly recommend if your looking to change your thinking and change your life. I have seen incredible transformations in my personal and professional life after reading this as well as the sequel ultimate introduction to NLP.

This book has great insights as how to take charge of your thoughts. Many people fall prey of depression because of the habit of thinking past memories. This book is for everyone who want to have a mind freedom. Learn the techniques and practice it.

The authors of this piece of art did an fantastic job! They wrote in such a way that the reader can experience a vivid and clearly understanding of all the book is all about. They involved me in the story inside the book in such a way that I felt I was there watching very closely everything. By understanding the story I understood all the techniques the authors teach!

This is a great way to understand NLP. I have studied it for over 20 years and use it every day with myself and clients. There is always a way to help people when you use this approach. Love it keep going Richard you are a true force for positive change in our world.

Excellent introduction to NLP. The approach – of someone going on an NLP course, and their thoughts before, during and after – made it very readable. The subtle way of emphasising major points, through the power of a story narrated through the conference delegate, was really clever. It provides a great overview of NLP, in a very easy to read format. I’m now reading the NLP for Dummies book for the substance.

The book oversells itself. It’s not a user’s guide to NLP as it claims, but just a way to experience Bandler’s take on it as it is sold today. It’s not as good as the Bandler seminar I experienced in the 1990s or as “using your brain for a change” from the 1980s
